When disaster strikes, emergency managers, first responders, and community members need reliable information. However, obtaining that information is challenging when there are no phones or cell towers available. While radios can provide some communication, it is often too expensive to equip every citizen in your coverage area with a disaster radio.
FrogNets can be deployed well in advance of an emergency and provide a full internetworking experience, including access to the traditional Internet when available.
The cost for a full FrogNet can be less than $20 per person in the first year and only $2 per person in subsequent years (estimate).
A DisasterComm FrogNet can become a community hub before, during, and after a disaster. FrogNets can host sites and services that are only available to FrogNet users. Things like chat, photo and video sharing, Voice over IP (VOIP), message boards, and many others we have not yet thought of can all be made available. For the first time in history, disaster victims, community organizers, and emergency management organizations can all be sharing the same information, in real time, before, during, and after the disaster.
Each FrogNet Node (LillyPad) already has a web server and a database.
A DisasterComm FrogNet automatically and transparently connects individuals and neighborhoods experiencing a disaster and supplies essential services to the community.
Using our DisasterComm Connect application, you can:
If an edge of the FrogNet is connected to the traditional Internet, the entire FrogNet is given access.
